Highland Park encompasses an area between Eisenhower Drive and Mall Boulevard, and extends to the northern tip of Lake Mayer Park. Hodgson Memorial Drive is its western border.

Lake Mayer Park is a popular recreational destination for residents living on the southern side of Savannah. In addition to its community center, the park has a 1.5-mile paved fitness path, as well as a lake with a fishing pier and a boat dock. About a half-mile to the south of Highland Park is the Montgomery Crossroads Shopping Center. It features a grocery store and is across the street from the Southern Montessori Academy. Other schools close to Highland Park include St. James Catholic School, the Savannah Montessori School, and the Benedictine Military School.

South University is within walking distance of Highland Park. Established in 1899, it was originally a two-year college. Today it is a four-year university offering programs in a variety of areas.

Highland Park is one mile south of the Georgia Regional Hospital and the Bacon Park Golf Course, a 27-hole public course.
