Bnai Brith Jacob Synagogue is an Orthodox congregation with a history that goes back to the mid-19th century. The original Jewish community of Savannah was composed of Sephardic Jews. The new immigrants were from Eastern Europe and the Ashkenazic tradition, and they wanted to form their own congregation. They did, and after several buildings, the current Synagogue was constructed in 1962.
