Gordonston Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
Gordonston is located on the east side of downtown Savannah, Georgia. The neighborhood is bounded by East Gwinnett Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Skidaway Road in zip code 31404. Gordonston is named for the Gordon family, the most famous member of which is Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA.
Constructed in the early 20th century, sprawling angel oak trees draped with Spanish moss and landscaped medians adorn this historic community. Named to the National Register of Historic Places, the architecture ranges from Colonel Revival brick mansions to smaller Arts and Crafts cottages. Wide sidewalks and street lamps provide safety for residents. The area has been referred to as a walker’s paradise.
The Juliette Gordon Low birthplace, also known as the Wayne Gordon House, is open for public tours of the house and the grounds. Admission tickets are sold by individual, family, and Girl Scout troop rates. In December of 1953, the Girl Scouts of the USA purchased the house and began renovation and preservation efforts. Currently, the house is used as an educational facility and museum.
The Gordonston Neighborhood Association hosts monthly meetings, cookouts, and holiday parties at the Gordonston Park Cottage. The cottage is available for reservation by residents for private events.
