Carver Heights Apartments for Rent
Located in the heart of downtown Savannah, the Carver Heights neighborhood stretches along West Gwinnett Street and a series of surrounding streets. The community is bordered by Louisville Road to the north, Atlantic Coastal Highway to the east, Interstate 516 to the west, and Interstate 16 to the south.
The residences within the Carver Heights neighborhood are primarily single-story dwellings, the majority of which were constructed in the 1950s, although some development began in the 1940s. Although most of the residences are single-family homes, several have been transformed into multi-family dwellings with several units in each building.
Residents with school-age children benefit from the neighborhood’s proximity to Oglethorpe Charter School, Georgia’s first charter middle school, which is located less than a half-mile to the east. College students enjoy a quick commute to Savannah State University, Georgia’s oldest historically black public university. It is within eight miles of Carver Heights along Interstate 516. The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is a two-mile trip to the east and offers an assortment of degree-granting programs.
Residents more interested in the cultural and historical aspects of Georgia’s fourth-largest city can travel 1.5 miles to the Savannah History Museum. Savannah Mall, which features more than 115 specialty stores, three department stores, a movie theatre, and several restaurants, is within 20 minutes of Carver Heights. Residents also benefit from easy access to Giant Discount Food Mart, a specialty store located on West Gwinnett Street, which is within walking distance from many parts of the Carver Heights neighborhood.
Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy a host of recreational opportunities, ranging from surfing to sunbathing on the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean can be easily accessed at Tybee Island, a seaside community near the border of Georgia and South Carolina, about 23 miles from Carver Heights.
