Fair Oaks Neighborhood

The Fair Oaks community was initially created by the Census Bureau during the 2000 census. It is located just outside the Marietta boundaries, and is considered a part of Marietta by the United States Post Office, as well as most residents of the area — except the few who actually reside in Fair Oaks itself. The area was named for the numerous oak trees that were already growing in the area. In 2005, the community was officially recognized by the Georgia General Assembly’s lower house.

Fair Oaks is home to a park that has two fields for baseball and soccer, a sand volleyball court, and a football field. There are also a trio of covered pavilions that can be used for picnics, and a multi-purpose court available for the public to enjoy. In addition, Fair Oaks Park is home to a tennis center and a recreation center that provides opportunities to play in competitive tennis, flag football or soccer leagues.

The largest major landmark located close to Fair Oaks is Dobbins Air Force Base, which at one time was considered a threat to the small community, until the state’s General Assembly ruled that the community had been in existence prior to the construction of the military establishment. The community is also relatively close to the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, where residents can walk along some of the trails and paths used by Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.

Residents of Fair Oaks also have easy access to Southern Polytechnic State University, as well as cultural locations in and around the Marietta area, such as the Jennie T. Anderson Theater located near Marietta’s central square. There are numerous points offering access to Interstate 75 in this area also, connecting the community with shopping and dining options in Midtown, Buckhead, Downtown, and around the Perimeter.
