Kennesaw, GA Apartments for Rent

Kennesaw, Georgia is a beautiful city with a fascinating past. There’s a lot happening in this northern Atlanta suburb – history, a university, and a pedestrian-friendly downtown filled with shops and restaurants.

Before selecting an apartment to rent in Kennesaw, it’s important to know that this was the site of some major Civil War battles. One of those battles was quite unconventional – the Great Locomotive Chase. In 1862, a group of Union soldiers commandeered a train. But first, the creative soldiers cut the telegraph wires. On their way to Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Union soldiers did as much damage as they possibly could to the important railroad lines. Confederate forces were in hot pursuit – first on foot, then later on several different trains. Because the telegraph lines were cut, the Confederate soldiers couldn’t send warnings.

The Confederate soldiers eventually caught up to the Union soldiers. Many were executed, while others were able to escape. Some of those Union soldiers were awarded the very first Medals of Honor by the US Congress. The centerpiece of the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History houses the famed General, a steam locomotive used by the Confederate soldiers to catch up with the Union soldiers.

Kennesaw isn’t just an Atlanta suburb – it’s a college town! This is home of Kennesaw State University, a public university with more than 32,000 students. KSU is one of the largest universities in the state of Georgia and offers 13 colleges. The university offers 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including five doctoral programs. When you select an apartment in Kennesaw, you can cheer on the KSU Owls! The Owls participate in NCAA Division I. The football team is part of the Big South Conference and play at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The basketball team plays at the KSU Convocation Center, while the baseball team plays at the Stillwell Baseball Stadium.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is another must-see after moving to your Kennesaw apartment. This park was the site of the Atlanta Campaign of the Civil War and is now a US Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Kennesaw Mountain is a terrific place to hike – this is the highest point in the metro Atlanta area and features a scenic overlook. The park also features a museum and an interpretive center.

You’ll appreciate the shops and restaurants in historic Downtown Kennesaw, as well as the charming neighborhoods and parks. Once you move to an apartment in Kennesaw you’ll also be able to enjoy the annual Big Shanty Festival! This festival is one of North Georgia’s largest arts and craft shows. In addition to crafters, artisans, and vendors, there’s live entertainment, food, and activities for children.
