Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood in Atlanta, GA

Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood

A diverse community of Craftsman bungalows and shotgun houses, Old Fourth Ward is less than two miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. This historic neighborhood was established in the 1800s, but it is most famous as the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr. and is home of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site.

Old Fourth Ward also contains the Sweet Auburn Historic District, an African-American community founded in 1865. This tight-knit community holds annual events such as the Sweet Auburn Springfest.

Freedom Park begins in Old Fourth Ward and extends through several Midtown neighborhoods. This large green space is six miles long and contains several permanent sculptures and six miles of walking and jogging paths.
