Greenbriar Parkway Southwest also meanders past to the south.

Two significant area shopping centers are situated within a mile east of the neighborhood, just on the other side of I-285, Greenbriar Mall Shopping Center and Westgate Shopping Center. The former offers a movie theater, food pavilion and a long list of specialty stores, as well as anchoring Macy’s and Burlington Coat Factory locations.

The Ben Hills Plaza Shopping Center is situated even closer to home (to the north), and the area roadways offer a smattering of commercial enterprises, like a CVS Pharmacy, Family Dollar, Church’s Chicken, auto parts store and post office. A dentist, daycare center and the Southwest Atlanta Hospital are all in the vicinity as well.

Recreation is also convenient to the Mellwood neighborhood. Some of the nearest options include the Ben Hill Park Recreation Center to the west, Greenbriar Park to the southeast and Deerwood Park to the south. The latter offers a playing field and two tennis courts, as well as a good deal of open space. Greenbriar Park features mostly undeveloped parkland.

Another significant attraction of the Mellwood neighborhood is the Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport, located less than 10 miles to the southeast. Residents of Mellwood clearly enjoy easy access to downtown Atlanta to the northeast, as well as access to the rest of the country and the globe via the nearby airport.
