Leila Valley is located just west of Moreland Avenue, on the South Side of Atlanta. The remaining boundaries for this community are McDonough Boulevard to the north, Jonesboro Road to the east, and Interstate 285 to the south. Many of the neighborhoods are made up of single family homes that vary in cost from the mid $60s to the mid $140s. Other residence options include a number of apartment complexes that begin in the $400 per month range for a single bedroom apartment. The area is well-served by mass transit, with a number of bus stops located throughout the area, and easy access to transit stations that offer connecting bus service around the city.
Some of the city’s most notable historic homes are located near the community, including one belonging to the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. The Wren’s Nest, home of the author of the Bre’r Rabbit stories, Joel Chandler Harris, and the historic Herndon Home and Museum are also accessible to residents of these neighborhoods. The State Capitol, which offers tours and a museum, can also be easily reached from the Leila Valley community.
People who want to get outside more often have several parks at their disposal. Grant Park, which has the distinction of being the oldest park in Atlanta, is located less than 5 miles from the community. In addition to a number of picnic areas, plenty of wide open green space, and a myriad of walking and nature trails, the park is also the site of the Atlanta Cyclorama, a visual depiction of the battle of Atlanta during the Civil War, and the Atlanta Zoo. Centennial Olympic Park is also located in the area, and plays host to numerous events throughout the year.
Sports fans in the neighborhoods will be thrilled to learn that they’re near three of the biggest sporting venues: Turner Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves, The Georgia Dome, and Phillips Arena are located within 5 miles of their community.
