Part of the park contains the Sandtown Road which was used by Native Americans to travel from the Stone Mountain Area to the border of Alabama. There are also Civil War ruins in the park. Picturesque trenches and a pump station dating from the Battle of Utoy remain in the park. There is also a spring that is reputed to have healing and restorative properties. The 120 acre park boasts extensive trails, abundant wildlife and an outdoor auditorium. Despite being in the city limits the park is remarkably clean and charming.
Mount Gilead Lake offers camping, hiking and nature viewing. The Chattahoochee River is only a short drive away. West Manor Park is a city park which offers soccer fields and a playground.
Neighborhood schools include Kimberly Elementary, Therrell High School and Benjamin E. Mays High School.
