The Georgia Tech neighborhood is roughly 400 acres, and is made up of the residences that surround the Technical Institute along 14th Street, down toward Interstate 75, then across Tech Parkway, and back up toward a small corner of Howell Mill Road. There are a number of residential choices in the area, ranging from apartments to craftsman-style houses.

Despite a location just off of Interstate 75, the area has become a popular location for locals and visitors. The opening of the centrally located Technology Square offers a number of shopping options, including a major bookstore, a variety of boutiques, and several popular food stops. The neighborhood is also home to The Varsity, considered one of the biggest and oldest drive-in restaurants in the country, and an Atlanta staple. According to popular tradition, anyone moving to the city is forbidden to refer to themselves as an Atlanta resident until he or she has dined at the establishment.

Being located just off of I-75/85, residents in the Georgia Tech community have easy access to one of the city’s main arteries, and can easily reach one of the city’s largest public green spaces: Piedmont Park. The park features pavilions for picnicking, walking and biking trails, and two dog parks. A number of the businesses in the area also cater to both humans and canines. For residents without vehicles, exercise can be found at the Atlanta Yoga Studio, a few blocks away from the main campus.

Sports fans living in the community can take their pick of venues. They have Bobby Dodd Stadium at the Historic Grant Field, the home of Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team, as well as Alexander Memorial Coliseum, where basketball season gets underway. The Coliseum is so close to the school, it’s virtually in the backyard! For those who prefer to watch the pros play, both Turner Field and Phillips Arena are located within three miles of the area.
