Situated near Interstates 85, 285, and 20, as well as the well-populated Highway 400, the Eastside section is best known for the urban renewal of Victorian homes and shopping. This part of the city, especially Memorial Drive, DeKalb Avenue, Inman Park, Edgewood, and Kirkwood, has undergone revitalization in recent years. Considered one of the oldest neighborhoods in Atlanta, The Edgewood community was transformed with the opening of the Edgewood Retail District. This district is home to retailers such as Target and Lowe’s, as well as local shops, restaurants, and a residential section with newly built and renovated homes.

Eastside is within walking distance to shopping, but also Little 5 Points, which is a must-see while on the east side of town and a huge selling point of this area. Little 5 Points is in the heart of Eastside and is home to The Vortex Bar & Grill. This establishment is famous in its own right – featured on The Food Channel for their one-of-a-kind half-pound hamburgers in over 20 varieties – and also because of its interesting entrance, which resembles a skeleton head and mouth. Little 5 Points in the Eastside is also the home of Junkman’s Daughter, which is a novelty/knick-knack/tchotchke shop.

Another popular shopping destination in Eastside is North Dekalb Mall. This enclosed shopping mall is located in Decatur and comprises more than 85 stores all on one level. Anchor stores include Burlington Coat Factory, Macy’s, Payless Home Furnishings, and Ross; the mall also features a food court and movie theater.
