The community of Three Lanterns lies in southeast Tallahassee, Florida minutes east of Florida A&M University. The community is situated west of Highway 261 and south of Highway 20. The main through street in the community is Blair Stone Road. Nearby communities include Blairstone Forest and LaVerde.

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, otherwise known as FAMU or Florida A&M, offers a variety of bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and Phd degree programs. A portion of the 420-acre campus of this historically black college lies in the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical Historic District, designated as such in May 1996. Martin Luther King Boulevard is the main throughway through the campus. The old Carnegie Library is listed on the National Register.

Golf lovers in Three Lanterns enjoy the Hilaman Park Municipal Golf Course, located north on Blair Stone Road. This golf course, within walking distance of the community, offers an 18-hole course, a driving range, tennis courts, snack bar, and pro shop. For the more serious golfer, Capital City Country Club is a few minutes to the northwest of Three Lanterns. This club is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the area and offers a challenging 18-hole course, pro shop, 5-court tennis complex, Olympic size pool, and gourmet dining.

Governor’s Square Shopping Mall lies to the north of Three Lanterns providing visitors with big box stores such as Dillard’s, JCPenney’s, Macy’s, and Sears, along with over one hundred specialty stores, plenty of restaurants and eateries, and a movie theater. Other retailers in this area include Best Buy, Toys R Us, Party City, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Target.
