South City in Tallahassee, Florida, is a residential neighborhood approximately four miles south of the Florida State Capital building. The Capital City Country Club forms the north border of the community, and Florida A & M University lines the eastern edge.
East Magnolia Drive provides direct access to Florida A & M. The 420-acre campus was established in 1907 and is well known for its College of Law and College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is also a research facility for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In 1966, a portion of Florida A &M University campus became part of the National Register of Historic Places.
Local businesses in South City cater to the college crowd. Bookstores, shopping centers, and fast food places are within walking distance to many of the homes and apartment complexes that house students living both on and off campus.
Government workers also make up a significant part of the South City neighborhood. While South City is an urban area, it maintains a suburban feel with neighborhood parks and groups of mature shade trees throughout the area.
The Capital City Country Club is an esteemed establishment that is part of Tallahassee history. Built in 1924, the golf course facilities include an upscale pro shop, and two Professional Golf Association professionals on staff, and sponsors golf tournaments throughout the year. There are also tennis courts, an Olympic-size swimming pool, gourmet dining room, and a ballroom.
South City is a community that offers prestige, a sense of history, and southern charm to area residents who value easy access to the benefits of the Tallahassee, Florida area.
