Outer Southwestern Leon Neighborhood

Outer Southwest Leon is a large region southwest of Tallahassee and including a portion of the Apalachicola National Forest. While less densely populated than Tallahassee, Outer Southwest Leon provides a true Florida landscape, especially with the forest as your backyard. Communities included in this region are Woodville, Boxham, and Helen. Area neighborhoods include Oak Ridge and Wilson Green.

Living in this region is an outdoorsman’s dream, due to miles and miles of wilderness, trails, lakes, streams, wildlife, and preserved nature located just steps from home. Outer Southwest Leon communities offer quiet, safe, and family-friendly living that is convenient to the city, yet provides the seclusion of a sanctuary where deer leisurely graze in the backyard and flocks of geese fly overhead.

Apalachicola National Forest and Wildlife Management Area is connected to Tate’s Hell State Forest, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, Joe Budd Wildlife Management Area, and Lake Taiquin State Forest and Wildlife Area, making this forest and wildlife area extremely large. The Apalachicola National Forest alone is Florida’s largest forest, at more than 570,000 acres. The area is especially well known for its botanical diversity, including colorful plants and wildflowers, some of which are the last still in existence.

Tallahassee Regional Airport is just minutes away. This small general-aviation airport also provides air taxi, military, and some scheduled commercial services through American Eagle, Continental Connection, Delta, and US Airways. Those who travel for work or for play will enjoy the short commute to the airport.

Florida A&M University is located in Southwest Tallahassee, making Outer Southwestern Leon a terrific place for students and faculty. This school offers a variety of bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and Ph.D. programs.
