Northampton is a community in Tallahassee, Florida. This family-friendly neighborhood is a short drive from a pair of golf courses and a large state park. Several other parks are in the area, as are shopping centers that border the community to the north and south.
Chiles High School is within half a mile from Northampton. More than 1,900 students enroll at the school, which is one of the newest high schools in the county. The high school took its name from Lawton Chiles, an American politician and former Florida governor.
Equally close is Killearn Lakes Elementary School, which enrolls more than 900 students in grades pre-K through 5. In 2004, Killearn Lakes Elementary received a Blue Ribbon School Award for national excellence. Another Blue Ribbon winner, Hawks Rise Elementary School, is located within a five-minute drive.
The Golf Club at Summerbrooke and Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club are roughly a mile from Northampton. Summerbrooke has an 18-hole course with rolling hills and challenging elevation changes, as well as a 2,100-square foot, resort-style pool. Golden Eagle’s 18-hole course is accompanied by swimming pools, lit tennis courts, and the 135-acre Lake Diane.
A secret garden, a picturesque brick walkway, and a reflection pool await visitors to the Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. The park covers more than 1,000 acres and includes Lake Hall and Lake Overstreet. Two short nature trails lead hikers through the woods overlooking Lake Hall, where swimming and fishing are allowed. Visitors can also enjoy picnicking on the beach with grills and pavilions at hand. Children can play on a playground. A five-mile trail adjoins the park’s gardens and can be used as a biking, hiking, and equestrian trail.
