Nestled within Lakewood on Shoreline Drive is Campbell Pond Park. Residents can enjoy a nature walk near the pond or bring children to the playground that borders a tree hammock that provides adequate shade on hot summer days. This is a small Tallahassee pocket park that is mainly used by the local community. To the west of the neighborhood and north of the airport is Talquin Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Talquin provides over 3,000 acres for residents to explore. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are popular activities at this site along with seasonal hunting.

Residents are only minutes from local businesses to the west on Woodville Highway. Traveling north on Woodville will take residents into Downtown where there are many specialty shops, dining options, art galleries, and museums. Florida A&M University is south of Downtown and Florida State University is to the west. The area surrounding both of these universities provides various venues aimed at collegiate life like theaters, bars, and nightclubs.

Lakewood is bounded by Gaile Avenue to the north and Woodville Highway to the west. Tram Road is just north of Gaile Avenue and extends to the east of the neighborhood. South of the community is Campbell Pond and Wow Road. Nearby neighborhoods include Wilson Green to the west, Campbell Park to the northeast, and Oak Ridge is to the southwest. Fairview Middle School is situated in the Campbell Park neighborhood and Oak Ridge Elementary is in the Oak Ridge community. Rickards High School is approximately 1.5 miles to the northeast.
