Lafayette Oaks Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The first gated community in Tallahassee, the neighborhood of Lafayette Oaks lies about seven miles northeast of the center of the city. The land used for this private community was once part of the historic Lafayette Land Grant, given to the Marquis de Lafayette in honor of his support and financial assistance during the American Revolution.
Today, the Lafayette Oaks community of 320 homes is a very desirable neighborhood in which to live. The community is known for its lovely landscaping and streets lined with mature trees, which include crepe myrtles, oaks, and pine. Each home sits on substantial acreage.
The neighborhood has many community amenities, including a commons area; tennis court; swimming pool; playground area; and community center, which is often used for celebratory events and holiday parties. It has well-paved trails and a pond that attracts birds and waterfowl.
The neighborhood association is an active group. An ongoing Lawn of the Month Contest and Lafayette Oaks Book Club are just two of many activities sponsored by the association.
Residents of Lafayette Oaks are within easy reach of any number of excellent medical facilities. Within the area are the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Tallahassee; Tallahassee Memorial Hospital; and the Apalachee Center, which focuses on behavioral issues.
One popular attraction near the Lafayette Oaks neighborhood is the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum. Not only does the museum contain some unique vehicles, but it also houses an assortment of collectibles and antiques. Among the exhibits are the hearse that carried President Lincoln, Model Ts, Roadsters, and the Batmobile used in the Batman Returns film.
Other treasures at the museum include antique toys and nautical equipment, golf memorabilia, and time pieces. Of special note is an Alma-Tadema piano. The museum also offers spacious banquet facilities.
