Callen Apartments for Rent
Callen neighborhood homes are generally mid-size ranch homes built on large, heavily shaded lots. Sidewalks make it quite pleasant for parents to walk their kids to the nearby elementary school, or for college students to walk to class at either Florida State University (FSU) or the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), which both lie within a mile of Callen. A great recreational area and the Tallahassee Museum also lie close to the neighborhood.
Callen is bound by West Orange Avenue and North Lake Bradford Road along the south and east, and by Coleman Street along the north. The neighborhood is a part of the 32310 zip code area.
FSU’s total student enrollment sits around 40 thousand students, which makes for a lively campus. Both FAMU and the Tallahassee Community College round out the higher educational institutions in the city. These schools are very active in the community, and nowhere is this more evident than the Challenger Learning Center, a joint partnership of FSU and FAMU. The IMAX Theater and Space Mission Simulator are just the beginning of the Center’s educational experiences.
The Tallahassee Museum lies within walking distance of Callen. The museum’s Old Florida site has an 1890s school, and three buildings from a cotton plantation. The Natural Florida site has walking trails that give visitors a chance to explore the cypress trees at Lake Hiawatha. Music festivals like “Swamp Stomp” and “Jazz and Blues” bring great, affordable music and fun to the community.
The nearby Lake Bradford provides residents with outdoor water sports.
Art lovers may enjoy visiting the Railroad Square Art Park. Once a warehouse, this art park is now home to 50 studio galleries and a sculpture garden.
