The Bond Westside neighborhood definitely illustrates the saying that location is everything. The neighborhood joins Florida A and M University along the eastern boundary. The Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail is the western boundary. West Orange Avenue forms the southern boundary and Floral Street the northern boundary. The Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail is an exciting neighborhood attraction. Both scenic and historic, the trail is used by bikers, walkers, and skaters. Horseback riding is allowed on the unpaved trail.

It’s a trip through time, too. The trail was once the rail route that carried cotton from the plantations to the coast. The trail ends at the town of St. Mark’s. Anyone who has worked up an appetite from the hike will no doubt enjoy the seafood restaurants at the end of the trail. San Marcos Apalache Historic State Park is at trail’s end, too.

FAMU athletic fields and stadiums are an easy walk away, as is the main campus. The university’s oldest surviving building is Carnegie Library, which dates to 1907. It houses the largest collection of African American source material and artifacts in the southeast.

AMC Tallahassee Mall 20 Theatres is about three miles north. For those who like to combine space exploration with entertainment, the Challenger Learning Center is the place to go. Sponsored by Tallahassee’s two major universities and located in downtown Tallahassee, it is a 32,000-square foot learning center for K-12 students.

With two major universities in the neighborhood, entertainment and nightlife venues are not hard to find. A favorite, Bullwinkle’s, was named by Playboy Magazine as one of the best college bars in the country.
