The scenic Avondale neighborhood is situated approximately six miles east-northeast of Downtown Tallahassee, Florida. Residents access the community via Buck Lake Road, which also forms the neighborhood’s its northern boundary. This community then extends south to Avondale Court, where it borders the neighboring community of Countryside of Tallahassee. Avondale’s eastern boundary is Mabb Road, and its west boundary is Pedrick Road. The Benjamin’s Run neighborhood also borders Avondale to the west.

The area’s main shopping destination sits about two miles to the east near the intersection of Buck Lake Road and Mahan Drive. A Walmart Supercenter and Costco are also located in this area. The Governor’s Square Mall lies just few miles farther south. This area also offers various specialty shops and dining options.

Located in the 32317 zip code area of Leon County, Avondale is ideally located near several highly-rated public schools. Buck Lake Elementary lies just west of the neighborhood. Swift Creek Middle is about one mile north, and Lincoln High School is only a couple miles to the southwest.

The popular J.R. Alford Greenway lies to the southwest, only one of several Tallahassee greenways. The greenway’s 875 acres offer both hiking trails and open spaces. Mountain bikers and equestrians also utilize the greenway.

The greenway is not Avondale’s only unique feature. Piney Z Lake, Lake Lafayette, and Lake Lafayette Heritage Trail Park lie just to the southwest. About a mile west of Piney Z Lake is Tom Brown Park. To the northwest is Buck Lake.
