Governor’s Square lies west of University Parkway, on Governor’s Place Court, the only access road. The small neighborhood is composed of single-family homes and an apartment complex at the entrance. Surrounded by mature shade and convenient to recreation, shopping, and major thoroughfares, it is also quite close to two of Pensacola’s higher educational institutions.

The University of West Florida is little more than a mile north, along University Parkway. UWF offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees to about 12,000 students. Nearby Pensacola Junior College offers associate degrees, as well as technical and vocational certification.

For quick escapes from the surrounding city, Scenic Highway is about two miles away. Running along some of the highest terrain in Florida, the drive offers magnificent views of Pensacola Bay. Also east is a great recreation area, Escambia Wildlife Management Area. With a half-dozen rivers draining the massive watershed, it’s a favorite area for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and enjoying the cool spring-fed waters.

The Governor’s Square area is conveniently located to several good malls and retail areas. University Town Center is within walking distance. Along with several fast-food restaurants, there is also a Target Store. Cordova Mall is a short drive south, near the Pensacola Regional Airport. Many think this is the nicest mall in Pensacola.

A number of historic and recreational attractions lie south in Old Pensacola and on Santa Rosa Island. Four historic forts, one dating back to 1763, are great places to explore. Other favorites are the waterfront area and Seville Square, a multi-block area of museums, galleries, historic homes, and Pensacola Museum of Art.

Great festivals year round celebrate Pensacola’s food and culture. From the April Jazz Fest to November’s Great Gulf Coast Art Festival, there is always something interesting going on.
