The community’s population of approximately 36,000 residents lives within its 3.5 square-mile area. The median income for a household in Aventura is $44,526. This neighborhood has a high Jewish population, many of whom come from New York, Chicago and Boston.
Aventura was developed during the early 1970s as a tropical version of Beverly Hills. It became incorporated as a city in 1995. It is home to the world-famous upscale Aventura Mall; measuring 2,400,000 square feet, it’s the largest mall in the area featuring six department stores and more than 250 shops. Other malls here include Loehmann’s Fashion Island, Aventura Shopping Center and Aventura Commons.
Aventura can be characterized as an enclave of lush tropical scenery, surrounding sleek high-rises and upscale single-family homes. Majestic palms line the streets, and medians are covered with flowers. The city has its own exclusive parks and recreation department; it operates Founders Park, located in the center of the city and featuring a bayside path, a children’s playground, tennis courts and a multi-purpose athletic field. The department also operates Founders Park Bayside, Waterways Park, Waterways Dog Park, Veterans Park, The Community Recreation Center and the Liberal Arts Theater.
In the heart of Aventura, the Turnberry Golf Course is surrounded by Country Club Drive Circle, a multimillion-dollar, horticultural three-mile walking/jogging paved promenade which overlooks the luxury high-rises, yachts and the Atlantic Ocean.
In nearby Miami, the world-acclaimed Miami City Ballet accentuates a thriving community of top Miami dance companies showcasing classical and other diverse dance forms.
The Miami theater scene offers world-class performances in three venues: the Jackie Gleason Theater, the Actor’s Playhouse and the Coconut Grove Playhouse.
The Aventura Express shuttle bus is a city-run public bus service, free to Aventura residents. The Miami-Dade Transit and Broward County Transit bus systems also run through the city.
