Northeast 10th Avenue is the northern border of Northeast Neighbors. West University Avenue is its southern border. Northeast Waldo Road serves as its eastern border, while Northeast 9th Street is its western border.

Northeast Neighbors is a college-friendly community. The University of Florida is about a mile to its southeast. Santa Fe Community College is a half mile to its west, and the Institute of Black Culture is two miles to its west.
Several of the more well-to-do Northeast Neighbors residents belong to the Gainesville Country Club, which is about six miles southwest of the community. It lies on the Paynes Prairie State Preserve, which has 260 bird species on its 20,000 acres. The country club has an 18-hole, championship golf course, tennis court, aquatic center, clubhouse and on-site dining.
