When the Sacramento Army Depot closed in 1995, 370 acres of the facility were leased from the city of Sacramento to Packard Bell Corporation. This investment toward city development and revitalization created much-needed job growth. It also created provisions for a unique community within the Sacramento city limits. When Packard Bell closed its headquarters in Sacramento, the company left behind a well-established neighborhood.

Two local high schools, Florin and Cristo Rey, offer Packard Bell students opportunities to explore individual interests in academics, sports, and higher-education goals. Cristo Rey provides each student with work experience opportunities through the school’s work-study program. This program is designed to help students pay for college and prepare for careers. The students attend regular classes four days per week, using the fifth day to work at local businesses.

For those who enjoy golfing, the Packard Bell neighborhood is home to the Cordova golf course. Complete with lighted driving ranges, a pro shop, and delicious dining at Stu’s Bar and Grill, this 18-hole course welcomes individual golfers as well as tournament play. The mild weather of Sacramento, as well as scenic landscapes with large trees and three lakes, makes this golf course a perfect destination for local residents and tourists alike.

Granite Park is a wonderful family destination in the Packard Bell neighborhood. Amenities include lots of picnic areas, sports fields, a skateboard and dog park, running trails, and water features. The park even has horseshoe pits available. Visitors enjoy easy access to lots of parking.
