Perfectly preserved Victorians, craftsman bungalows, and newer condominiums, all anchored by a Frank Gehry masterpiece, make Santa Monica’s Wilshire Montana neighborhoods one of the most desirable in the Los Angeles region.
This walkable neighborhood lies north of the city’s downtown along the coast. The upscale Wilshire Montana neighborhood falls between Montana Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica from the beach to as far east as 26th Avenue in some parts. The zip code is 90403. The neighborhood is one of the most densely populated in Santa Monica.
The Pacific Coast Highway leading to Malibu runs alongside it and Interstate 10, which provides a straight shot into Los Angeles, is nearby.
The neighborhood borders Palisades Park on the west. The park runs along Ocean Avenue with running paths and views of the Pacific. While the neighborhood leads to the ocean, it sits on the part of Santa Monica that is on a flat section of hills above sea level. The neighborhood is separated from the beach by the hillside drop to the ocean and the busy Pacific Coast Highway. However, residents can access the beach by walking down one of several sets of stairs and pathways over the PCH that lead to the water.
The popular street mall Third Street Promenade lies just south of the neighborhood on Third Street, which is closed to traffic. Repertory theater, The Aero Theater, operated by the American Cinematheque, is located on Montana Avenue.
The mostly residential neighborhood is made up of Victorian duplexes, craftsman bungalows and more modern condominiums. The neighborhood is laid out on a grid. The Gehry House, a Frank Gehry masterpiece, sits on the corner of Washington Avenue and 22nd Street.
