A Mountain Apartments for Rent

“A” Mountain overlooks the Tucson basin. More formally known as Sentinel Peak, this mountain ridge community has quite an interesting history. “A” Mountain is located between Interstates 19 and 10, on the southern portion of the Tucson Mountain Range. It received its familiar name in 1914, when a University of Arizona student convinced one of his engineering instructors to allow him to construct the “A” in the mountain after winning a big football game. Within two years, the “A” was whitewashed and became a permanent feature of the mountain, representative of University of Arizona’s school spirit.

“A” Mountain is a rocky community, where much of the landscape is defined by volcanic rock and sediment. While the mountain does not actually contain a volcano, the earth’s movement and erosion developed out of volcanic activity taking place deep within the earth. Multiple student organizations work to preserve the “A” on “A” Mountain. For decades it remained white. After 9/11, however, the “A” was painted red, white, and blue to reflect patriotism and honor for America.

“A” Mountain consists of mainly an urban population where residents earn moderate incomes. It is a college community, diverse in culture, though heavily influenced by its close proximity to Mexico’s border. There are several shopping centers in the area including two main malls and several smaller strip malls.

Recreational activities include exploring the Tucson Mountain Range where locals and visitors enjoy all sorts of activities. Trails are available for hiking, biking and horse riding. Several areas are designated for picnicking, observing wildlife and taking in scenic vistas.

“A” Mountain is a beautiful community where some residents live in gated communities with gorgeous, luxurious homes. The mountain overlooks the city of Tucson from the west. It is rich in history, culture and activity.
