The Wakefield neighborhood of Tucson is in the 85713 ZIP code, south of the downtown area. When compared to northern communities in the foothills, this neighborhood has a greater population density. The grid-aligned streets expand at the edges for commercial purposes yet shrink back in the residential areas, keeping travel through the neighborhood simple.

The boundaries of this neighborhood follow I-10 to the north to the South 6th Avenue exit from the freeway. The eastern border follows South 6th Avenue for nearly two miles before it connects to the southern edge of West Irvington Road. The southern border extends to the west as South 12th Avenue closes in the neighborhood.

The Coronado National Forest at Sentinel Peak to the north offers a hiking adventure. The Tucson Electric Park Stadium and the Pima County Rodeo Grounds are to the east of the neighborhood. To the south of the community is the Tucson Rodeo Parade Museum, which commemorates the rodeo-themed parade that began in 1925. The Mission Branch Public Library is just to the west of the Wakefield neighborhood.

A majority of homes are simple adobe styles from various twentieth-century periods. They provide affordable living in the second-largest city in Arizona. The Wakefield neighborhood is primed for growth in both the commercial and residential sectors. Many of the properties utilize low-maintenance desert landscaping, creating a clean curbside appeal.

There are several schools and community service buildings in the neighborhood. Sidewalks line the streets. Tucson is known as a bicycle-friendly city, with bike lanes on the major routes. The Sun Tran Bus Line, with multiple routes out of the Roy Laos Transit Center, provides public transportation throughout the city.
