The Ray Neighborhood of Tucson is in the 85706 zip code area. South of downtown Tucson, the neighborhood has a great view of the Black Mountain along the skyline. Although it sits on the outer edge of the city, the Ray Neighborhood has all the appeal of a downtown district in a rural environment.
The neighborhood borders follow East Drexel Road, cutting into the desert past the I-10 to the north, and pushing down to South Belvedere Avenue n the east. The southern boundary follows the angle of East Benson Highway to South Columbus Boulevard on the west side.
The Ray Neighborhood is central to many of Tucson’s famed and favorite activities. One favorite to the north is the Randolph Municipal Golf Corse, a 72 par, 6863-yard course open since 1925.
To the east, the 355th Fighter Wing is housed at Davis Air Force Base since 1971. This legendary air squad flew many missions in World War II. To the south, the Tucson International Airport provides transportation. It was the first municipally owned airport in the United States. For relaxation, there is the Santa Cruz River Park to the west.
The neat rows of ranch-style homes in Ray have both a tidy and welcoming appearance. Most of the homes have opted for water saving, low maintenance desert landscape, keeping trees near the house for shade. The outer edges of the neighborhood dip into the untamed desert.
The Ray Neighborhood is pedestrian friendly. Sidewalks parallel the roadway throughout the area. Tucson is a bicycle-friendly city, with bike lanes on many main roadways, and the wide streets in this neighborhood have room for bikes and vehicles to share the road safely. The Sun Tran Bus Line offers public transportation in the area on routes 202-X, 203-X, 412, and 24.
