Although Oro Heights is 14 miles north of Tucson, residents have only a six-mile drive to the Oro Valley Marketplace, which has a Wal-Mart Supercenter plus dozens of restaurants and stores. The shopping center is located on the corner of Oracle Road and Tangerine Road. Interstate 10 is straight down Tangerine Road, not far from the community. For a quick trip into Tucson, Oracle Road is the main route. Residents don’t have to go far for fast food, as there are several outlets within the neighborhood.

Catalina State Park is a local favorite not only for the designated trails for horses but also for the many other trails that allow dogs. The park is also popular for camping. There are several parks in the area, including the James D. Kriegh Park, which has an Olympic-sized swimming pool and recreational fields. The Mountain View Country Club is just north of Catalina.

Children attend Painted Sky Elementary, Coronado K-8 School, and Ironwood Ridge High School. There are several churches in the area. Local schools make trips to Catalina to visit Howard’s Apple Orchard, only a few blocks from the Oro Heights neighborhood. It is a local favorite for organic fruits and vegetables and a great field trip for students from neighboring communities.
