Las Palomitas is a neighborhood in the foothills of the majestic Santa Catalina Mountains, north of Tucson. It’s a primarily residential community. The majority of the homes in Las Palomitas are single-family, detached houses, while there are also condos, apartments and mobile homes in and near by the neighborhood.

The Rillito River Park is southwest of Las Palomitas. It’s an ideal park for bikers and runners, as the park is essentially a six-mile long trail with a riverbed that’s dry for the majority of the year. The George Mehl Foothills District Park and Tohono Chul Park are within a five-mile radius of Las Palomitas.

The Tucson Botanical Gardens is south of Las Palomitas. It’s a non-profit organization and public garden. Its wildflower garden is especially popular. The on-site Gardens Cafe serves delectable meals with exquisite views. It also has a gift shop, and the Porter Hall Gallery offers changing works on display.

Las Palomitas is popular with college students, as the University of Arizona is only two miles west of the neighborhood. The University of Phoenix offers a learning center that is a bit over three miles west of the community, while the Bikram’s Yoga College of India is four miles to its west. The Art Center Design College and the Art Institute of Tucson are also near Las Palomitas.

Cultural attractions are also easily accessible from Las Palomitas. The De Grazia Gallery in the Sun is less than a mile northeast of the neighborhood. It displays the works of artist Ettore “Ted” DeGrazia. The Mini-Time Machine is south of Las Palomitas and is an off-beat museum with miniatures and more.
