Hiking trails make this national park accessible for the person who loves wildlife, or who enjoys taking pictures. There are also places with beautiful scenic views and for picnicking. Camping sites are available. Some places in this park approach an altitude of 8,000 feet. Though the saguaro cactus is often considered one of the symbols of the American southwest, there are actually few other places where they grow.

Las Palomas is also not without wild animals. Residents often see them all year long. Sometimes these sightings include creatures that are quite rare and not often seen. It is a joy to be able to see them right outside the door.
