Due to its central location and one of the most beautiful parks in Tucson, the neighborhood of La Madera is a most interesting and well-visited portion of midtown. Though overwhelmingly residential, storefronts of all kinds line the inside borders of La Madera, making it a very popular stop for people throughout central Tucson.

The local Neighborhood Association does a very good job of keeping residents happy, even maintaining a Yahoo! Group that allows residents to reach out and discuss issues quickly and easily.

Events pepper the neighborhood’s calendar year-round. Homeowners compete during the holidays to see who can create the most festive and elaborate yard and home displays, while Play Day in La Madera park is a great party for all the neighborhood kids to get together. Tree-planting is another great event the city holds—every year residents get together and plant trees.

La Madera park has always been one of the most beautiful in Tucson, but recently the city gave it a complete makeover. The remake allowed the city to start its all-green initiative, making the ramada of La Madera park the first all-green ramada in the city of Tucson. Solar-powered lighting, low-flow toilets, a water cistern, and a watering system that uses gray water for local plants are just a few of the park’s features.
