The tiny community of La Cienega consists entirely of a single small stretch of road in the Catalina Foothills northeast of Tucson. The stretch of North Elena Maria south of East Cloud Road makes up the neighborhood of La Cienega.

La Cienega is situated in the far northeastern part of the Catalina Foothills, bordering both Saguaro National Park and Catalina State Park in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Due almost entirely to this single fact, the neighborhood of La Cienega is actually quite desirable in the surrounding community.

Life in La Cienega is about as far from being in a city as one can possibly get whilst still remaining technically urban. The closest commercial activity is at the corner of North Bear Canyon Road and East Tanque Verde Road, but the shopping center there is not large enough to even sport an official title.

For more significant shopping, residents of La Cienega have to travel an additional mile or so down the road to the corner of East Tanque Verde Road and North Sabino Canyon Road, where a number of shops are congregated in both the Tanque Verde Shopping Center and the Colonia Verde Shopping Center. The nearest park is also at this corner — the Morris K. Udall Park is frequented and enjoyed by many La Cienega residents.

A little farther down the road is the country club that many La Cienega residents frequent. The Tucson Country Club features waterfront areas, parks, and recreational activities of all kinds. Though somewhat expensive to join, those who can afford to live in an isolated neighborhood such as La Cienega are perfectly suited for Tucson Country Club membership.
