Hardydale is convenient to neighborhood and regional recreational areas. Arthur Pack Regional Park is one of the city’s largest and includes a public golf course. Not far to the northeast of Hardydale is a stable, offering boarding and lessons. Santa Catalina Mountains and Natural Area are very close by. Santa Catalina State Park, just ten miles away, provides RV and tent camping and is a photographer’s paradise. There are hiking trails, though some are quite rugged. Thirty miles northwest is Picacho Peak State Park. Its landmark mountains have guided travelers for centuries.

Two of the newest, trendiest malls in Tucson are nearby. Foothills Mall is closer and includes retail stores such as Saks and Barnes and Noble, and many quality restaurants. There is a cinemaplex here, too. La Encantado is only a bit farther. This new outdoor style mall features such names as Pottery Barn and more than 50 specialty stores. A large supermarket and a fast-food restaurant are just north of the neighborhood along North Thornydale Road.

Tucson has a rich past and there are many historic sites to explore. The Pima County Courthouse, noted for its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Tucson Museum of Art preserves five houses dating to the 1850s. One, La Casa Cordova, is the oldest building in Tucson.

Several universities and colleges, including The University of Arizona and Pima Community College, are nearby.
