Drexel Park is a small neighborhood conveniently located near downtown Tucson and in the vicinity of Tucson’s International Airport. The neighborhood offers easy access to several retail stores, schools, parks and major Interstate highways. Only a few amenities are within walking distance. The Grant Plaza South Shopping Center off East Drexel Road is one of the closest retail outlets, however getting there requires a car.
Among the closest nearby parks is Rudy Garcia Park, formerly known as Rodeo Park, featuring picnic tables, ramadas, softball fields and a playground for children. El Pueblo Park, off West Irvington Road, is another small park equipped with a children’s playground. The park also features a weekly farmer’s market offering fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, eggs and more.
The Pima County Rodeo Grounds just a few blocks away off Irvington Road, holds interesting annual events such as Las Fiesta De Los Vaqueros featuring cowboy range work and providing visitors a taste of Tucson’s Wild West. The Tucson Rodeo Parade Museum within the grounds, boasts different artifacts of the past, such as old wagons, buggies and historical memorabilia.
Parents of school-aged children can take advantage of several schools located nearby. The Sunnyside Unified School District includes Drexel Elementary School off Drexel Road, Craycroft Elementary School off East Littletown Road, Manor Elementary School off West Santa Rosa Street, Apollo Middle School off West Nebraska Street, Desert View High School off East Valencia Road, and Sunnyside High School off East Bilby Road.
