If you want to escape the sights, sounds, and pollution of the city, the cozy and quiet subdivision of Dietz is a single-family oasis on the far east side of Tucson. The crisp, invigorating air in this neighborhood attracts cyclists, hikers, and families.

The area is very user-friendly with stores such as Target Greatland, Bed, Bath and Beyond, as well as small eating bistros and commercial restaurants.

Dietz has it own public school in the area named after Charles E. Dietz, a teacher in the local public school system and a graduate of University of Arizona, who had been stricken with polio at the tender age of three months.

Less than 30 minutes away is the nation’s historic Colossal Cave Mountain Park. This national park has a rich history and a notorious legacy, as its earliest inhabitants were the Hohokam Indian settlers of 900 AD. It was the home of nine escaped prisoners in 1882, and mail and train robbers in the nineteenth century. It was featured in a Disney film, “The Outlaw Cats of Colossal Cave.” It was also one of the homes for the Civilian Concentration Corps company 858 and 2851.

In Dietz it is very common to see a single biker or a pack of bikers preparing for El Tour Del Tucson as this area has Tucson’s friendliest biking paths and beautiful views of the bordering Catalina and Rincon Mountains. Dietz retains all the majesty of its native greenery and tall saguaro cacti.

There is a rich selection of churches representing many faiths such as Lutheran, Latter Day Saints, Baptist, and Episcopalian.

The homes are a mixture of new and old homes. The older homes are of solid masonry, slump brick construction, while the newer homes are usually stucco. There is a combination of flat ranch-styled homes amidst newer one- and two-story construction.

The price range for homes in this area is mid $100,000 to $200,000. Average date of home construction is 1962, but there are many newer homes constantly being built.

In Dietz, one gets to enjoy time standing still in this quiet neighborhood.
