Outdoor enthusiasts can make use of Purple Heart Park and Lincoln Regional Park. Saguaro National Park East is east of the neighborhood. The park offers extensive hiking trails and allows hikers to backpack. Naturalists will enjoy the Saguaro plants at the lower levels. As the mountains become elevated, the cactus are replaced by grassland, bushes, and at the highest elevations, fir and pine trees.

Children in the Desert Willow neighborhood attend Vail County Schools. The AIMS test scores in these top-quality schools are high at all three schools: Sycamore Elementary, Corona Foothills Middle, and Vail High School.
