Colonia De Kino is a small, well-to-do neighborhood in the Catalina Foothills. It lies north of Tucson, Arizona. Colonia De Kino is just southwest of the Heatherwood Hills neighborhood.

North Swan Road runs along the western side of the Colonia De Kino neighborhood. This road connects residents and visitors to the greater Tucson area. Since Colonia De Kino is a residential area, homeowners have to simply go up North Swan Road for about a mile to reach many popular restaurants, including Trattoria Pina, Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant, Pizza Hut, Skybox, and several other major chains.

The homes in Colonia De Kino tend to be on the larger side, many of them with additions like swimming pools, Jacuzzis, and magnificent, perfectly manicured lawns. Despite the obvious status and excesses of many of the neighborhood’s residents, it’s an unassuming, friendly, and down-to-earth community, where there is much ado about Christmas. Trick-or-treaters have a haven here on Halloween, and spring brings the scent of blossoms in pretty much every yard. The lack of a neighborhood association that many of the nearby neighborhoods boast has not affected this close-knit community at all.

While the sprawling personal property of many of the residents of Colonia De Kino fill their need for the great outdoors, there is a park a little more than a mile southwest of the neighborhood, the George Mehl Foothills District Park. Residents can enjoy games at its four lighted baseball fields and two batting cages. Kids enjoy the three playgrounds within the park, and families can bring a lunch to enjoy at the picnic tables, or use the grills provided by the park. Although you will see dogs on neighborhood walks in Colonia De Kino, the George Mehls Foothills District Park has its own off-leash, shaded dog park that is very popular with area residents.
