Catalina Del Rey is a well-to-do subdivision in the Catalina Foothills, just north of Tucson. Comprised primarily of townhouses and single-family, detached residences, the community is picturesque yet convenient to all the urban treasures that Tucson is known for having. Since the neighborhood is close to the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains, natural scenery also abounds.
The Bel Air Plaza Shopping Center is just east of the community. St. Phillips Plaza and Plaza Palomino are also located near Catalina Del Rey. The George Mehl Foothills District Park is south of the Catalina Del Rey neighborhood. The Rillito River Park is frequented by Catalina Del Rey residents who enjoy biking and hiking, since it is primarily a six-mile trail open from sunrise to sunset. The Tucson Botanical Gardens, a wonder of nature and a Tuscan landmark, are only four miles south of Catalina Del Rey.
Catalina Del Rey is a popular neighborhood for college students. The University of Arizona is less than three miles west of the community. A campus of the University of Phoenix, which many people use for at-home study, is located just four miles south of Catalina Del Rey. The Art Institute of Tucson, which has an impressive record of artistic successes among its alumni, is only four miles from the neighborhood.
