The Black Horse neighborhood is in the far northern section of Tucson, against the Catalina Mountains. Most residents have a view of this mountain range in the distance. Shopping is abundant, with malls and shopping centers dotting the landscape surrounding the neighborhood. Catalina Plaza is less than two miles from the neighborhood, while the S B Vistoso Shopping Center is a little more than four miles from the subdivision. The Oro Valley Marketplace is a little farther. Other shopping areas nearby are Park Place and the Tucson Mall.
Elementary school students in Black Horse attend Coronado K-8 School, while those in intermediate school will go to either Coronado K-8 or Catalina Mountain School. High school students attend Catalina Mountain High School. College students can enroll at the University of Arizona or Pima Community College.
Residents in need of urgent medical care can find it four miles from town at the Oro Valley Hospital. The Northwest Medical Center is also an option and is located 12 miles from Black Horse.
