The Barrio Anita neighborhood is located between Interstate 10 and Granada Avenue in Tucson, Arizona. It is one of the older neighborhoods in Tucson with the first adobe house constructed there around 1925. The area is named after an early resident.
There are many brightly colored adobe homes in the Barrio Anita neighborhood. Southwest hues of blue, red, and purple are abundant in this neighborhood. This is considered a historic neighborhood with many of the homes restored to their original beauty.
There are several parks in Barrio Anita. Oury Park is home to the Barrio Anita Community Mural Project. The mural is a compilation of Barrio Anita’s history and present. One of the most famous paintings in the mural is The Woman of the River. She is a beautiful woman covered in flowers with energy and lifeblood flowing out of her. Visitors are delighted upon visiting Oury Park and the community’s spectacular mural.
A great place to visit in Barrio Anita is the Sculpture Garden. Visitors can view a wide variety of sculptures and exhibits. The Sculpture Garden is a perfect place to hold a wedding or enjoy other special events.
The Rio Santa Cruz River once flowed through the city and had an irrigation ditch that flowed under some homes. Residents at one time used the river to cool off in the long, hot summer months. Since the construction of Interstate 10, the river no longer flows through Barrio Anita.
