Pecan Valley is a small community on the southeast corner of San Antonio, spanning only about a mile and surrounded by the greenery of the Southside Lions Park, golf course, and country club, all in the 78219 zip code. The Pecan Valley community struggled at a poverty level for many years, but was recently revitalized by the downtown condominium projects in addition to the opening of the Toyota Plant just a few miles away.
The location of Pecan Valley makes it simple to visit the Brooks Air Force base, which is just two miles south, and Lackaland is only 6 miles to the west. This gives Pecan Valley a charming, country-like quality, yet it’s near major employers and military bases.
The area is all about local community. There are a few large chain stores in the immediate area for shopping; otherwise, local grocers and meat markets are the preference for residents. Antiques shops and specialty stores owned by San Antonio residents are the more popular shopping choices. Due to the proximity to downtown San Antonio, residents can also visit the huge, three-story Rivercenter Mall downtown or the more quiet McCreeless Mall to the northwest.
Restaurant options include fast food such as McDonalds or Chick-fil-A. For more restaurants, residents can visit the Riverwalk, three miles north of the area.
Nightlife in Pecan Valley includes a few local pubs, offering a low-key and relaxed atmosphere. Movie-goers can visit the brand-new Mayan Palace, offering plenty of cinematic entertainment for kids of all ages.
