Mahncke Park is a small residential neighborhood located near some of San Antonio’s largest attractions including several city parks, the San Antonio Botanical Garden and the Sunken Garden Theater, a historic music venue. Its proximity to parks and lots of local, well-established restaurants and entertainment make it ideal for young families, couples or singles looking for local flavor.
Located north of downtown San Antonio, Mahncke Park is home to vintage residential architecture including craftsman-style homes, shingle construction and even some Creole and shotgun variations. Parks and points of interest surrounding this neighborhood are cyclist- and pedestrian-friendly with dedicated trails for non-drivers to use.
Burr Road acts as the northern boundary for Mahncke Park which resides in the 78209 zip code. Old Austin Road winds around to create part of the eastern border but continues to the northeast while the Mahncke Park area ends on the eastern side of the San Antonio Country Club. To the south, Brackenridge Avenue, Tendick Street and Eleanor Avenue intersect to create an angular southern border. Broadway Street and Avenue B make up the western boundary and also contain most of the major commercial development within the area.
Major points of interest in the area include the San Antonio Country Club, built in 2005, which offers members access to a private golf course, tennis courts and gym facilities. Public green spaces in the area include Mahncke Park which has walking trails and open space for picnics or a pick-up game of football or soccer.
Other, smaller parks include Clover Lawn Park, Blue Grass Lawn Park and Mesquite Lawn Park all situated along Catalpa Street. Just outside of the neighborhood are Brackenridge Park, one of San Antonio’s largest public parks, which has sports fields and hike and bike trails for outdoor types.
