With its wide variety of housing options and walkable streets, Teele Square appeals to just about everyone. Each morning pedestrians flood Broadway and Holland Streets to head out to neighboring cities. This active Somerville neighborhood is comprised of townhouses, condominiums, and single-family homes, ranging in age from turn-of-the-century to the early 2000s. There are variety of shops and restaurants along Broadway. This active neighborhood became a commercial hub in the early 1900s at Broadway and Holland Streets. Housing was then built in the surrounding area, creating what is now Teele Square.
Home designs in Teele Square run the gamut from Cape Cod-style, to Tudor, to Modern Dutch Colonial. There are more multi-unit buildings in the area than single-family homes. Many of the late 1800-era duplexes and triplexes have been converted into condominiums in recent years. New condominiums have also been built on Endicott, Weston, Broadway, and Waterhouse. Teele Square comprises the zip code 02144 and is bounded by Broadway on the north, State Highway 24 on the southwest, and Paulina Street on the east. The area is quickly accessible to Route 16 and Interstate 93.
Of the many appealing aspects of Teele Square is its ready access to the popular neighboring communities of Davis Square and Powder House Square. The community is also within walking distance of Tufts University, which was founded in 1852. This private research university is home to the nation’s oldest graduate school in diplomatic relations and law. This prestigious learning institution set records by admitting women as undergraduate students in 1892. Also nearby for the enjoyment of Teele Square residents, is the Somerville Community Path, which is a tree-lined trail that runs near Davis Square. The scenic trail connects to area streets and includes a community garden. It has lighting at night and is snowplowed during the winter months.
