Spring Hill Neighborhood

Spring Hill is a neighborhood of Somerville, Mass., and a northern suburb of Boston. It is located between Prospect Hill and Davis Square, with Somerville Avenue running along part of the southern border and Highland Avenue on the north. Somerville is a historic city because its location, only 2 miles north of Boston, played an important part in the American Revolution.

Spring Hill is a residential neighborhood that is located on one of Somerville’s seven hills. It has some single-family homes, but the majority of the residences are multi-family or condo conversions. One great condo conversion is the Carr Schoolhouse. These condos are located in a historically significant former school, and great effort was made when doing the conversion to retain much of its former charm with authentic materials, including blackboards remaining in some homes.

Bailey Park, which is located in Spring Hill, is a dog-friendly park. It is a great place to walk your dog, but pets must be on a leash at all times and you must be prepared to clean up after your dog. Aggressive dogs and dogs that bark a lot are not allowed. This is a park that both people and dogs will enjoy with its mature trees and open spaces.

Dickerman Playground offers a place for children and adults to come and enjoy the greenery. It offers a playscape, swings, and a water feature. Additionally, there are picnic tables and a bocce court. Plenty of open grassy lawn space and a distinctive mural complete the park.

The Somerville Museum is an offshoot of the Somerville Historic Society. It is dedicated to showcasing local artists in a variety of mediums.

One unique piece of architecture in Spring Hill is the Round House on Atherton Street. The house, which dates from the mid-19th century, is quite rare and is undergoing extensive restoration to preserve it.
