Midtown Neighborhood
The Midtown community of Jacksonville is located at the southeast end of the city, bordering the St. Johns River. Two major highways run through this neighborhood. On the north is Matthews Expressway and on the south, Commodore Point Expressway. These highways provide easy access to all of Jacksonville and surrounding areas.
The Midtown neighborhood contains some single-family homes, but due to its urban location and development of the land, the community is known for offering many apartment and condominium living options. Apartments and condominiums are in high demand, and the area offers many great choices for residents. Midtown is a sport enthusiast’s dream. Because of so many nearby options for football games, baseball games, basketball games, and even wrestling, there is always a sporting event happening nearby to go and see.
One of the biggest attractions about which this neighborhood can boast is being host to Ever Bank Field, the home stadium for the Jacksonville Jaguars football team. This stadium also hosts the annual Florida vs. Georgia Football classic rivalry game, and the Gator Bowl, a post-season college bowl game. This stadium was the host to the Super Bowl in 2005.
Just to the west of Ever Bank field is the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. This 15,000-seat multi-purpose arena was built in 2003. It was designed to have the acoustic characteristics needed for live concerts. The first artist to hold a concert there was Elton John, in 2003. Since then, thousands of entertainers have performed in the arena. It also serves as a multi-functional entertainment site, hosting men’s Olympic basketball, NCAA Tournaments, and even WWE shows throughout the year. Currently, the arena is home to the Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League and the Jacksonville Dolphins men’s basketball team.
Tucked into the middle of Ever Bank Field and the Veterans Memorial is the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. This minor league ball park is home to the Jacksonville Suns. Constructed in the early 2000s, the ballpark has an impressive brick exterior and a unique interior, offering fans a superior baseball experience. The views at night of Ever Bank Field next door and the lights from the cars passing over the bridges of the St. Johns River make for a beautiful outdoor baseball setting.
