Anchorage at a Glance
Mountain View Neighborhood
The community of Mountain View inspires visions of well manicured lawns, large houses, and scenic views of snow capped mountains. Although this Anchorage neighborhood only lives up to the third descriptor, Mountain View nevertheless offers residents cheap housing in Alaska’s largest city. This community lies in the 99508 zip code of the Municipality of Anchorage.
The neighborhood’s small homes are great fixer-upper opportunities for the right buyer. Rental homes in the area are often maintained at higher standards than owner occupied homes.
The neighborhood generally isn’t considered very walkable, although walkers are often seen out in groups during the day while children play in the neighborhood’s courtyards and sidewalks.
The presence of the Elmendorf Air Force Base just to the north of the neighborhood allows ample opportunity to see and hear F-22 Raptors, C-17 Globemasters, and C-130 Hercules aircraft flying overhead. It also allows quick access to the base’s annual summer air show.
The Mountain View neighborhood is only going to get more popular. The community lies at the center of many local re-development projects that have been sponsored by local churches, the city itself, and other charity organizations that operate in Anchorage.
A major landmark in the area is the Alaska Museum of Natural History, which lies on the southern outskirts of the community within a stone’s throw of the Glenn Highway (Alaska One).
