The East Queen Anne neighborhood lies on the northwest side of Seattle, Washington. The community sits just west of Lake Union, and about 10 minutes from the downtown area. It is bounded by Westlake Avenue North and Aurora Avenue North/State Highway 99 on the east, Queen Anne Drive on the north, Queen Anne Avenue North and Fremont Avenue North on the west, and Ward Street on the south. This community is situated in the 98109 zip code area, within King County.
This large neighborhood spans nearly one square mile and was home to more than 7,740 residents as of 2009. It is primarily residential, but several commercial offerings are scattered throughout as well. MacLean Park, the East Queen Anne Playground, and Bhy Kracke Park are also located within neighborhood bounds.
Lake Union is one of the most prominent attractions in the area, offering opportunities for boating, sailing, and other water sports. Lake Union Park, a 12-acre park, is also situated nearby, offering walking paths, a model boat pond, a water fountain/play feature, and boating and maritime heritage programs.
East Queen Anne is also within walking distance of the Space Needle, Science Fiction Museum, and Seattle Center, located just south of Mercer Street. Several additional cultural attractions and entertainment options can also be found in this area, including the Experience Music Project and Key Arena.
For more to see and do, residents of this community make the short drive south to downtown Seattle, which hosts many shopping, dining, entertainment, and nightlife options. The downtown area is also home to Seattle University and several major medical centers. Sports fans may frequent Qwest Field and Safeco Field, home to Seattle’s respective football and baseball franchises, the Seahawks and the Mariners.
