Dunlap is a community on the south side of Seattle, along the southwestern shores of Lake Washington. It is roughly a 15-minute drive from the heart of the downtown area. Named after the area’s first homesteader, Joseph Dunlap, this Washington state neighborhood is bounded by Martin Luther King Junior Way South on the west, the lake on the east, South Fletcher Street and Rainier Avenue South on the south, and South Kenyon Street on the north. It is part of King County and is in the 98118 zip code.
Much of the Dunlap community is residential, made up of single-family homes. However, commercial offerings and other attractions can also be found throughout, including several churches, Dunlap Elementary School, South Lake High School, and Rainier Beach Public Library. The neighborhood is also host to Beer Sheva Park. This small lakefront park offers a children’s play area, picnic tables, and restrooms and is the perfect place to have a family picnic on a nice summer day.
This community is also just a short drive from Jefferson Park, located to the north, adjacent to the VA Puget Sound health care facility. Known for its golf course, this large park offers scenic views of the downtown area, the nearby Olympic Mountains, and Puget Sound. It also offers a unique green for lawn bowling and a community center.
Another attraction near Dunlap is the Boeing Field-King County International Airport.
